The Application of Technology
PPRD
When I first came back to do the second year I was quite enthusiastic about gathering as much knowledge as I could. Once I had listened to what would be expected of me over the next two units, I really did feel that my work could progress to the level of professional standards.
However at the beginning of the “Application of Technology” I found it quite hard to come up with my chosen specialism, in fact it wasn’t until I began the design element of this unit, that I truly honed into what I wanted to specialize in. in the end I came up with this short sentence describing my specialism “The integration of both natural materials and high technology to increase productivity in the work place environment.” I feel that this sentence truly envisions my views and interests, allowing me to pursue the element of design that I wish to pursue over this year.
It is in my view that although each of the sections in this unit did help with both the research and the development of my chosen specialism. Having to come up with the amount of presentations did detract from the time I would have liked for the design element of the unit. This forced me to hurryingly find a space that would be easily accessible and redesign it, without spending as much time on choosing a space, as I would have liked. Perhaps another factor to why I don’t think I had enough time to develop my redesign of the studio, was the fact that the unit entitled “design for the real world “, was launched prier to the completion of both the application of technology and the Presentation and Representation units. It turned out that the unfortunate outcome of this ended up being, that I spent more time thinking of ideas on how I could better the use of the library, instead of the redesign of the studio and building my webpage.
At the beginning of the year I felt that I needed to learn as much as possible before I left the course. However during the time spent on this unit I have felt that the decision to leave the course at the end of this year might have been premeditated. This is mainly because I feel that my quality of work should be of a higher standard at this point in time.
Taking into account what I have just stated in this PPRD report, I would like to reiterate the fact that I am very much looking forward to the next unit of the year “Design for the real world”, I have already come up with various ideas for my redesign of the library and have done more research then what I would have felt necessary.
Though writing this report I have come to realize my down falls and feel that I can now go forwards to the next unit, to truly create a standard of work that I feel proud of.

Welcome, to my conceptual design for a creative commons/club that I call:
"Club: Create"
The ethos behind the design project was to provide a space where people could network during the day. And at the same time be easily transformed into a bar/club type environment at night. Hopefully bring a sense of community to town centres.

The predominant design in the space is the two chair and table “shelves,” one on either floor. The idea came to me as I was trying to work out a way to fold the tables into the walls. At first it almost seamed too simple however it would work much like a kitchen cabinets that you need to push in before they open… the chairs and tables would just slot in when the space is used in the night mode and locked into place by electron magnets on the back or bottom of the chairs. This would prevent any rowdy club goers from damaging anything, I found that a happy side effect of the shelves is that LCD screens could be placed within the cavity and in places where the shelves are lower, could even be used as extra chairs.
